Engineering Success

Customers around the world rely on Timberland Equipment to deliver engineered projects that create opportunities and reduce risk while achieving operational goals.

This included:
• Ultra High Lift Scissor –  20 feet high

Design and Manufacture an Ultra-High Scissor Lift in 10 Weeks
Project: Cementation Canada Inc. needed an Ultra-High Scissor Lift for a contract job at Pretium Resources’ Brucejack Mine in northwestern British Columbia. The Ultra-High Scissor Lift was needed to safely install services in tunnel headings.

Challenge: To lift and place the new station’s main module, all 8 hoists required precise synchronization through Timberland’s proprietary PLC program.

Timberland was challenged with designing and manufacturing the Ultra-High Scissor Lift with only a 10 week turnaround on the unit.
Success: Timberland met the challenge of designing and manufacturing the Ultra-High Scissor Lift in the short 10 week time frame and incorporated the additional safety features Cementation was looking for.

This included:
Multi-Minejack - 5-in-1 vehicle:
 > Scissor Lift
 > Pipe Handler
 > Fan Handler
 > Tire Handler
 > Crane Truck

5-in-1 Multijack Multipurpose Mine Utility Vehicle
Project: Xtrata Copper requested Marcotte to develop a multipurpose system for its Kidd Creek operations that would increase utilization of the equipment and allow reduction of its total utility vehicle fleet. The new unit combines a fan handler, tire handler, crane truck, pipe handler, scissor lift and flatbed on a single Minejack platform.
Challenge: Development of the Multijack required the design of interchangeable modules and versatile connections for power and hydraulics for service crews in the mine to exchange quickly, as needed.
Success: The Multijack unit converts from a fan handler to a tire handler in as little as 20 minutes. This machine minimizes the maintenance cost, air column requirement and idle times of operating multiple vehicles underground.

This included:
• Scissor lifts
• Crane trucks
• Shotcrete haulers
• Shotcrete sprayers
• ANFO IT modules
• Fuelling stations.

Underground Utility Fleet for New Mine
Project: To develop its newest mine, the Nickel Rim project in Skead, Ontario, Xstrata required a complete new package of underground mining utility equipment. The program called for design, fabrication, commissioning and training for a total of 20 pieces including scissor lifts, crane trucks, shotcrete haulers, shotcrete sprayers, anfo IT modules and fuelling stations.
Challenge: While Xstrata’s equipment and support needs were well within Marcotte’s normal capabilities, our team was challenged to meet a very tight timeframe for delivery to get Nickel Rim on-stream within the project budget while meeting Xstrata’s high standards of safety and productivity.

This included:
• Cassette style fleet

Cassette Fleet for Diamond Mine Production
Project:
Surrounded by the vast tundra of Canada‚ Northwest Territories, Diavik Diamond Mines required a fleet of new prime-mover carriers that would adapt quickly and efficiently to the workshift‚ planned schedule by interchanging a range of rear cassettes configured with the necessary equipment and tools.
Challenge: Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but retrieving them from even the richest deposits of the world can be an extreme task. Isolated on a remote island in Lac de Gras, freight access to the Diavik Mine is restricted to seasonal ice roads created while the lake is frozen. The primary challenge for Marcotte was to manufacture and deliver the mines entire fleet before the spring thaw.
Success: Diavik is moving forward on its conversion from open pit to underground mining, utilizing its new fleet of Marcotte equipment designed to operate in the frigid Arctic conditions of this site.
