Turret Mooring Capabilities

Engineered Systems for FPSO Turret Mooring Operations

Timberland Equipment designs and manufactures critical equipment used in turret mooring and disconnectable buoy systems for offshore energy developments.

Core Capabilities

  • Chain jacks for high-load mooring handling and tensioning
  • Retrieval and installation winches
  • Disconnectable turret anchor buoy systems
  • Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs)
  • Integrated hydraulic and control systems
  • Custom-engineered offshore solutions
  • Factory testing and commissioning support
  • Lifecycle service and technical support

    Santos Barossa FPSO

The Santos-operated Barossa Gas Project is an offshore gas and condensate project that proposes to provide a new source of gas to the existing Darwin liquified natural gas (DLNG) facility in the Northern Territory. [AUSTRALIA] Natural gas would be extracted from the Barossa field, located in Commonwealth waters approximately 300 kilometres offshore north-northwest from Darwin, and transported via gas pipeline (Gas Export Pipeline (GEP) and Darwin Pipeline Duplication (DPD)) to the existing DLNG facility, with first gas targeted for 2025.
    This included:

    • 80 Te Hydraulic Winch
    • 2 x Riser Pullin Sheave Horizontal – 120 Tonnes – 2.5’
    • 2 x Buoy Pull-In Sheave Vertical c/w Loadcell – 1000 Tonnes – 7.6’

    Lufeng FPSO

The Lufeng FPSO is a floating offshore production, storage, and offloading facility designed to process crude oil directly at sea, store it safely onboard, and transfer production to shuttle tankers for export. Operating in the South China Sea’s Lufeng oilfield, the vessel enables efficient offshore development by eliminating the need for extensive pipeline infrastructure while supporting continuous, reliable oil production in deepwater conditions.
    This included:

    • 300 Te Synthetic Rope Traction Winch
    • Reel Winder
    • Electro-Hydraulic Power Unit

    Helang FPSO

The Helang FPSO is a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel operated by Yinson Production, designed to produce, process, store, and export crude oil directly offshore. It serves as the central production facility for the Helang oil field located offshore Sarawak, Malaysia, in the South China Sea.
    This included:

    • 170 Te Winch
    • 3 x 200 hp HPU
    • Double Sheave Block

    Capixaba FPSO

Turret moored FPSO located in Brazil. This traveling winch structure rotates around the top section of the turret shown in the photo on the right. The winches also traverse in and out to position appropriately for pulling in the mooring chains and risers. Another prime example of Timberland engineering ingenuity.
    This included:

    • 280 Te Traveling winch
    • 50 Te Traveling winch
    •  HPU

    Terra Nova FPSO

Terra Nova is located off the coast of Newfoundland and is a turret moored FPSO with a single chain jack. This is the world’s largest chain jack utilizing 7” (178 mm) chain (each chain link is 42” (1068 mm) in height.
    This included:

    • 1200 Te Chain Jack (178 mm chain)
    • 100 Te Traction Winch
    • 600 hp HPU
    • World’s largest single chain jack

    Turret Buoy

Timberland was contracted to design and manufacture a Hawser winch for a Monobuoy Turret Buoy for their offshore oil operations at Canaport Oil Crude Terminal, Canada in 2019.
    This included:

    • Hawser winch

    White Rose FPSO

The White Rose oil field is located approximately 350 km east of Newfoundland in the Jeanne d’Arc Basin, about 50 km from the Terra Nova and Hibernia fields. Developed by Husky Oil in partnership with Petro-Canada, the project targets an estimated 36 million cubic meters (230 million barrels) of recoverable oil across a 40 km² area.

Development includes a ship-shaped Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel capable of storing up to 850,000 barrels of oil, complete with processing facilities, accommodations, and a disconnectable turret system. Three to four subsea drill centres, protected within excavated glory holes, will connect to the FPSO via flexible flowlines and risers, allowing disconnection in emergency conditions such as iceberg threats.

Timberland supplied a chain jack, retrieval winch, and hydraulic power unit used to moor the turret’s disconnectable anchor buoy to the FPSO hull — similar to the system previously delivered for the Terra Nova FPSO.
    This included:

    • 1300 Te Chain Jack (142 mm chain)
    • 70 Te Winch
    • 500 hp HPU
