Pulling and Tensioning Fleet for Taiwan Power
Project: Timberland provided a full suite of conductor stringing equipment to Taiwan Power Corp.
Challenge: The equipment required custom engineering to be installed on trucks suitable for Taiwan’s road and terrain conditions, and to ensure that it can sustain the extreme climate conditions of Taiwan’s typhoon season.
Success: The project was completed on-time and Taiwan Power is enjoying the benefits of the high speed performance ratings and excellent reliability.

Bruce to Milton Transmission Line Construction
Project: Ontario’s Hydro One awarded the largest expansion of its grid in 20 years to Valard Construction, requiring 180 km of new 500-kV double-circuit transmission line. Valard turned to Timberland for a full suite of tension stringing equipment.
Challenge: Originally planned for completion in December 2012, the client requested Valard to bring in the project seven months ahead of schedule. To achieve this, Valard compressed an 11-month construction schedule into just four months, while still maintaining utmost safety and quality. The timeline required quick equipment delivery and zero machine downtime from Timberland.
Success: Valard met its new timetable, stringing and tensioning 4,700 km of conductor over 720 steel lattice towers on time from the Bruce Power complex in Kincardine, Ontario to the Milton switching station near Toronto.

• PT90-2H/2DD Model Puller-Tensioner

Tension stringing for 2-bundle conductor and OPGW in Costa Rica
Project: To string lines of two bundle per phase conductors along with optical ground wire in Costa Rica, the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (“ICE”) commissioned a PT90-2H/2DD model puller-tensioner from Timberland Equipment.
Challenge: The design of the trailer-mounted puller tensioner had to provide for towing the system at highway speed with hydraulic surge brakes and highway lighting. Timberland was also required to provide one week of Spanish-language training for operators and service technicians.
Success: Initial feedback from client is that they are very impressed with the control of the unit and its ease of use.

Tensioning Equipment for Two-Bundle Transmission Line in Edmonton, Alberta
Project: Timberland Equipment was required to supply a 7.5 ton tensioner, four powered reel stands, 48 two-bundle stringing blocks and a running board for McGregor Construction to erect transmission lines near Edmonton, Alberta.
Challenge: Not only did the equipment need to withstand the rugged environment on the jobsite, it also had to be delivered under a tight timeframe to meet the project’s schedule.
Success: Timberland Equipment supplied the equipment and the project was completed safely and on time without incident.

Transpower – New Zealand
Project: New Zealand’s Transpower was bringing a new 2-bundle electric transmission system through the country’s famously beautiful but ecologically sensitive terrain. Timberland provided four 9-tonne Puller/Tensioners to install the overhead lines.
Challenge: Delivery of the 4 custom-engineered Puller/Tensioners was required in a very tight time line to meet project schedule. The projects also called for a state-of-the-art control system with real time monitoring of project parameters.
Success: Despite the challenges of the rugged New Zealand landscape, the equipment performed well to meet Transpower’s requirements for successful completion.

This included:

• 20 ton 4-Bundle Tensioner

Puller and Tensioner Equipment for Jiangsu Power
Project: Timberland Equipment supplied a 28 ton Puller and a 20 ton 4 bundle Tensioner for the Jiangsu Power Company in Hubei, China, just outside of Wuhan. The equipment was used to erect 500 kV transmission line (4 bundle).
Challenge: The equipment needed to withstand the harsh subtropical environmental conditions and rugged, mountainous environment on the jobsite.
Success: The rugged and durable equipment supplied by Timberland met the client’s expectations and the environmental challenges posed on the jobsite.
