Kelly Slater Wave Pool

In 2005, Kelly Slater, an eleven time world surf league champion, had a dream to build a wave pool for surfing competitions and practice.
That dream became a reality in December when Kelly surfed the wave shown here in his first pond in California.  The Timberland supplied 3000 h.p., 2500 volt, variable speed drive electric winch is used to pull a foil at speeds up to 20 mph which creates a perfectly shaped wave in the 1200 ft long surf section of the approximately 2500 ft long pond.

Behind Nik Wallenda’s Historic Niagara Falls Walk

When Nik Wallenda made his historic high-wire walk over Niagara Falls on June 15, 2012, millions watched the spectacle. What most people didn’t see was the engineering that helped make the crossing possible.

Behind the scenes, a custom-engineered bull wheel traction winch designed and built by Timberland Equipment Limited was used to install and tension the massive steel cable spanning the Niagara Gorge.

The challenge wasn’t simply pulling the cable across the Falls. The 1,800-foot span required precise, continuous tension to minimize sag, maintain stability, and withstand the mist and winds surrounding the gorge.

Timberland’s specialized tensioning equipment helped:
✔ Pull the seven-tonne steel cable across the Niagara Gorge
✔ Maintain the high-load tension required for the crossing
✔ Safely distribute forces across the wire rope using bull wheel traction technology

The equipment performed so successfully that Timberland’s technology was called upon again in 2013 for Wallenda’s Skywire Live crossing over the Grand Canyon.

While the world remembers the daredevil, we’re proud that a piece of Southwestern Ontario engineering helped support one of the most watched high-wire walks in history.
