Cable Laying/Research Vessel Equipment

Timberland has extensive experience with handling of special cables in the marine, electric utility and telecom industries. We can provide a system to safely and effectively tension or pull underwater cable. From linear cable handling systems to bullwheel cable laying systems to drum winches, Timberland can design and deliver the system you require.

A few of our products are highlighted below. Contact us for your specific needs.

Linear Belt Engine
Opposed belt drive system provides cable pulling / tensioning performance. A single Linear Belt Engine provides 6,000 lbs. (2720 kg) performance. Multiple units can be used together in a ‘back-to-back’ configuration for increased performance capability (for example, 3 units used together would provide 18,000 lbs. performance). Closed loop hydraulic systems provide excellent operator control for precise placement of the cable.

Linear Cable Engines
Opposed tire drive system provides cable pulling / tensioning performance. Available from 2 pair 4,000 lbs. (1800 kg) systems up to 9 pair 18,000 lbs. (8160 kg). Closed loop hydraulic systems provide excellent operator control for precise placement of the cable.

Cable Drum Engine
Cable Drum Engines available in 3 m, 4 m, and 5 m, sizes. Linepull capacities ranging from 15 ton to 30 ton. The closed loop hydraulic system provides superior operator control for precise placement of the cable. Fleeting knives are included for fleeting the cable across the drum face.
