Riser Pull-In and Mooring Tensioning systems for P 56 FPU

The Petrobras P-56 Floating Production Unit (FPU) is deployed in deep water in the Marlim Sul Field, 110 km offshore from Brazil. Timberland Equipment designed and manufactured the complete Riser Pull-in system and the Mooring Tensioning System. The Riser Pull-in System is rated at 400 Te pull-in capacity at 4.0 m/min line speed. The Mooring Tensioning System, including 16 underwater fairleads and chain jacks, is rated at 600 Te stall capacity with a minimum chain speed of 2.3 m/min for 120mm chain.

For each of these systems, Timberland also supplied all of the required ancillary equipment including winches, hydraulic power units, control systems, control cabins, sheave blocks and wire rope.

Timberland was required to maintain the exacting technical standards set by Petrobras while meeting the tight delivery requirements of the contractor, FSTP, a joint venture of Keppel FELS and Technip.

Timberland drew on its past experience with FSTP/Petrobras to meet and exceed all the design requirements. The Riser Pull-In System and the underwater fairleads for the Mooring System were completed early and shipped to the customer ahead of original schedule. The sophisticated but stable control system on the two projects allows the equipment to operate automatically in a reliable fashion. Line speed, stable hydraulic parameters and the addition of automatic controls to monitor and self-correct minor operational deviations allows the operators to complete their work reliably and effectively. The FSTP design team made it clear that Timberland’s cooperation and detail throughout the entire process made us one of their favoured subcontractors on the project.
