Sifto Canada, a Compass Minerals company, operates its rock salt mine in Goderich, Ontario, at a depth of 1,800 feet beneath the floor of Lake Huron. To increase the mine’s operating capacities and speeds, Timberland Equipment was contracted to upgrade Sifto’s main production hoist, including replacement of the head sheaves to suit new rope sizes.
Special design attention was required to address the constrictions of the existing mounting structure.
Flared gusset plates with specific geometry were used to provide full capacity specifications and allow for clearance on existing structure. Replaceable steel groove liners were used for longevity and future flexibility.
